Letter to Cousin

Dear Matt,

In a nutshell, public relations (PR) is communicating information. But unlike a nutshell, public relations has many factors and variables.

For example, you can’t just share any information to anyone; in PR you need to tailor the message for particular media in a way that is suitable for that specific public. Then, communicate the message back to the organization in an effective and efficient way.

More then sharing information, "A public relations writer is responsible for helping an organization establish and maintain good relationships with its publics" (Public Relations Writing: Form and Style, Newsom and Haynes).

When communicating to the public a PR specialist must be persuasive and understandable while maintaining credibility to the organization. Also, it is important that a PR specialist must know what and when to communicate as well as to whom.

Public relations specialists write about all kinds of information. Information about politics, sports, products, events, reports, opinions and so on. Also, the information can be sent to internal or external publics, thus changing what and how the information is written.

Love,

Cousin Ryan

Ryan,
I liked the way you used the nutshell to describe PR. That was creative but i think you letter to cousin was supposed to look like a real letter. I am not positive but you might want to look into that.

I liked the part about the nut shell. It was a good way to dive into the letter. I also liked how you used sources in your letter. Good job, it was short, to the point, and interesting.

Ryan-
I liked how you included a list of various fields a public relations professional can work in.It was easy to read and would answer any basic questions someone may have about public relations.
